Thin Spaces

What if the uncomfortable places that I am so eager to overcome -- like the anxiety that I awake with almost every morning -- is actually a "thin space," where I am closer to the divine healing, the healing that I really need rather than the victory and self possession for which I long.

I wonder if it isn't rather common for us to reject God's personal invitations because they come in an unexpected, unappealing form. Or maybe it's more accurate to say that God is waiting for a personal invitation from us, like the picture of Jesus standing at the door. Or maybe better still: Jesus is already suffering the thing that we wish to avoid, so
when we fail to welcome the suffering we fail to welcome Jesus whose compassion
has already moved him into the heart of our pain.
