Even though we continually come up against principalities and powers (the world system), the world as enemy disappeared when Jesus overcame it. How did he overcome the world, which appears to be relentlessly rolling forward?
Jesus overcame the world, and Hell, by entering it and leaving a trace, a remnant, a way... himself. His spirit is concealed within every darkness or confusion -- every enemy. Our task is to fearlessly welcome reality, confident that the spirit of the Christ is already there awaiting us, ready to lead us deeper into his freedom.
This is why he can say, "do not be afraid," and "do not judge," because he's waiting for us IN the things we fear and judge.
