On Prayer

How about prayer as developing a receptivity to divine qualities that can be lived out in a world desperate for these very gifts.

For example, becoming a non-anxious presence in a culture overwhelmed with fear and anxiety, cultivating a heart of compassion in a lonely, competitive world, growing eyes that see beyond the roles people play and ears that can listen people into being.

Isn't this a power that could change the one who prays, the people with whom he or she lives and by extension, the world?
