My Last Word on Culture Wars

We are all image bearers, all of us. We each have something to offer the world. The gifts we have to offer are, as often as not, hidden behind a wall of hurt and anger, but the gifts we have to offer as God's image bearers are so great that they over shadow our petty differences. We all lose when we focus on the differences and forget to look for and value the image of God in each other.

Each of us are limited and broken, partially blind to the truth and beauty all around us, every point of view is limited, but all the points of view add up to a glimpse of the glory of it all. How can we do anything but forgive each other for our human limitation and frailty and seek to discover the Christ in every one?

I think that we are so often afraid of being wrong and needing to ask for forgiveness that we band together with people who think similarly. When someone challenges these assumptions, we feel threatened. If only we could see these differences in points of view as not threatening, but rather as an enrichment. Even if we don't agree, I'm sure we grow. I find that it's because we are broken and limited that we find forgiveness and acceptance so difficult. Just my thoughts at the moment.

Thanks for your thoughts. Yes, we do "band together." Sometimes like a "brood of vipers." It's understandable, since we are frail and limited. The only thing that can save us from these fears is a better vision, a more beautiful story, and we have it in the revelation of who we are in God.
